PetMed's Story
San Luis Obispo's first and only dedicated veterinary urgent care
After years of working in the emergency room, our founder realized most of our patients didn’t need to be at the ER, they needed convenient care, quickly.
PetMed is here to make sure your furry family member gets the care they need, precisely when they need it.
Ethan McEnroe, DVM
Owner, Medical Director, Veterinarian
Dr. Ethan McEnroe is a first-generation American raised in Bakersfield, CA. His dad is a dairy veterinarian and he spent lots of his time growing up riding along with him on farm calls. He distinctly remembers his dad reading him bedtime stories from James Herriot as a kid and knew from an early age that he wanted to be a vet like his dad when he grew up.
Dr. Ethan obtained his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Chico State in 2013. During undergrad, he worked as a veterinary assistant and after graduation, he worked as a K-12 substitute teacher. He received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine degree from UC Davis in 2018. After graduation, he returned to the Chico area to work at a mixed-animal practice until relocating to the Central Coast in the summer of 2021. He worked at a local 24/7 emergency vet hospital as an associate vet and then as the medical director prior to starting PetMed Urgent Care in the summer of 2023.

Dr. Ethan spends his free time hanging out with his wife (also a veterinarian), daughter and their menagerie of pets including two chocolate labs, a border collie, three cats and two horses. He enjoys spending time exploring the Central Coast with his wife and daughter. His hobbies include horseback riding, backpacking, conformation dogs shows, golfing and working with his wife on their property in Atascadero.
